Story Behind the Music
I know about the rules of jazz improv. I have not memorized them. I even have a hard time playing the jazz scale! Thus, creating a jazz piece took a little bit of relying upon outside information and a lot of guessing. I would like to think that such "guessing" was actually my soul expressing itself in a meaningful way, though.
This song was written in a classroom at Riverside Community College. The computers that I wrote this were Apple G4 computers and had some software and hardware MIDI devices such as instruments and a keyboard. The setup is frustrating because almost everything would not work all of the time.
The way that I wrote this song is a little bit unorthodox: "Um, let's see what this button does, WOW!" There was hardly any attention paid to form except for what was required. The only possibly way to realistically input music into the program was through the use of the MIDI keyboard. I am not a very good keyboardist. My lack of skill led to a very simple song that was formed A B A and was very legnthy in comparison to many other songs that I have written in the past.
All of this resulted in what I call "Super Duper Video." I only named the song this because of how it sounded in the end. I felt that the music would be an appropriate accompaniment to searching for a good movie to rent at the video store. Maybe a commercial would make good use of this odd match?
