Story Behind the Music
The Sega Master System is a very odd beast. This beast attracts me to play it in the most perplexing times. Sometimes I'll want to play the game The Ninja while I'm at work. Sometimes I'll want to play a game of Shinobi while I'm at school. Many times I'll grave either Out Run or Penguin Land at 3:00AM. But whenever I play the system, there is one thing that keeps me clued to the seat longer than I should be. This game is the odd maze game that was built in to the early versions of the console. This game holds a medley for which I arranged into a quaint piece of this admiration.
This particular piece of music relates to the original in melody only since there are numerous tempo and chord progression changes. There are even many parts of the music that stray from the melody altogether and focus only upon the emotion experienced when playing this game. There are many places that sound like an ending, and even pausing for long periods of time, yet continueing with a more goofy rendition of the song. This pause and reentry represents the act of playing this game more than once in one sitting. "Should I go to bed now? Nah, one more time!" Filled with unexpected twists and turns, even for me, this song is proven to be atleast a very odd piece indeed.
Proof of this song's weirdness comes from a public performance in front of classmates at my alumni Ramona High School. I saw many perplexed facial expressions. Many people applauded at what seemed to be the ending of the song, but were jolted back into place when the song continued. There were even a few giggles and whispers passed on between students. I'm sure that many of their thoughts was that I was a complete idiot. I, fortunately, disagree with them. This song fits the ticket perfectly.
